To make a new Modern Warfare game in 2024, we had to put to bed that old storyline. But it's still Modern Warfare.  That's the reason why the next game in the series, announced today, is simply called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as opposed to Modern Warfare 4.

Unlike the original Modern Warfare trilogy, 2024's Modern Warfare 3 won't be the end. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III won't be the end of the popular reboot of one of the franchise's most popular subseries, according to Call of Duty narrative director Brian Bloom.
