The idea for Trello was conceived by Joel Spolsky, Michael Pryor, and Daniel Tenner. They wanted to create a visual and intuitive tool for managing tasks and projects, inspired by the Kanban system used in manufacturing. Trello was officially released to the public in September 2011.
